What stood out to you about Aon?

The high quality levels of support given to graduates. And the scale of Aon was exciting, offering so many development opportunities and new areas to learn about and people with varying experiences to meet.

What are your main duties?

I’m part of the Natural Resources Claims team and my key responsibilities include notifying the Market of losses whilst communicating with Loss Adjusters (specialist investigators of damages) and clients. This involves utilising a range of communication and comprehension skills to make sure that the Insured’s coverage is understood and that all parties agree when it comes to settling a claim.

Why did you choose this sector?

Insurance is EVERYWHERE, from home insurance and sporting events to famous landmarks and all the things that facilitate our lives such as energy generators and water works – the list goes on! But even though Insurance touches all our lives every day, it’s often not something we think or hear about. There is a lot more than meets the eye with insurance which means there is always something new to learn which keeps it interesting for me.

What skills are useful in your role?

Communication is key. Insurance is a largely a people business and as a claims broker it’s essential that I can recognise appropriate forms of communication and utilise my networks to deliver results for clients. Other skills that can’t be ignored are the usage of technology and processes, this is a work in progress for me and something that I was quite nervous about, however training and practise has helped, and colleagues are always on hand to answer any questions around this.

What training have you received?

Since joining Aon in 2023, I have received a huge range of training. There is a mixture of mandatory training modules which cover the basics of compliance, I’ve had technical training within my team and have been given an overview of various areas. The CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) study is also helpful towards expanding my knowledge of the Insurance Market and Industry.

Outside of your day-to-day role, are you involved in any extracurricular activities at Aon?

I’m part of the Social Mobility Business Resource Group and Aon’s netball team. I also get involved in activities such as Aon Insights Week, speaking to students about careers in Insurance and life at Aon, so there’s lots to get involved in!
