Hammond plans low-key budget update as Brexit nears
Finance minister Philip Hammond looks set to announce the smallest budget deficit since 2002 next week, but is still unlikely to loosen the grip on public spending.
Profit at Grenfell Tower contractor Rydon rises 50%
The construction company that refurbished Grenfell Tower before the fire that killed 71 people experienced a 50% rise in profit last year. It also increased the salary of its highest-paid director by 8%.
UK construction output in biggest fall since 2012
Construction output fell by 3.4% in January from December, it has been reported. This was the biggest monthly decline in construction output since June 2012.
UBS plans to shift some staff to Frankfurt after Brexit
UBS has told employees that the majority of those affected by Brexit will move to Frankfurt. It is thought that this will affect around 200 UBS staff and is part of a decentralised approach to relocating staff.
FTSE treads water as Trump softens tariff stance
Shares remained steady after President Trump softened his stance on trade tariffs. Trump announced an import tariff on steel and aluminium but said countries could apply for exemptions.
